LAUREL WREATH, 3″, Dark

6 Laurel Wreath
Today’s Block

Laurel Wreath is the name given to today’s block by Grandmother Clark in 1932, although that version was appliqued. There are mountains of other names for this block: Grandmother Clark also called it Modern Star, Nancy Cabot and Home Art Company chose Many Pointed Star, and there is Arrowhead Star (Kansas City Star, 1931 and Carrie Hall, 1935), Michigan Beauty (Clara Stone, 1906), Beech Mountain Quilt, Star of Many Points (Ladies Art Company, #2, c. 1895) and Diamond Square (Needlecraft Supply, 1938).

The pattern has much variation, including the Streak of Lightening section being of smaller proportion than the corner squares and with or without a Square-in-a-Square unit in the centre.
